The sixth annual ʻAha Aloha ʻŌlelo will be held on Friday January 25 from 6:00-9:00p and on Saturday January 26 from 8:30a-4:00p at Hale Hālāwai in Kailua-Kona on the island of Hawaiʻi.

ʻAha Aloha ʻŌlelo is a festival held completely in Hawaiian featuring a Hawaiian language competition for all age levels, Hawaiian musicians, vendors and play area for the children! The multiple award winning musicians of the group Keauhou will be performing on Friday, January 25 at 6:00 pm as well as world renowned musician and kumu hula Kealiʻi Reichel on Saturday, January 26 at 12:00 pm.

This year’s overall theme is “Ka Naʻi Aupuni.” The topics for the speech competition will revolve around Ka Liona o ka Pākīpika (the nickname for Robert William Wilcox), King Kamehameha Paiʻea and the story of Kamehameha’s conquering of the Hawaiian islands and bringing them under one rule. Competition categories will include impromptu and memorized speeches as well as chanting and singing. Students from all grade levels from all types of Hawaiian immersion schools across Hawaiʻi will be competing, including Pūnana Leo o Kona, Ke Kula ʻo ʻEhunuikaimalino, ʻAlo Kēhau o ka ʻĀina Mauna, Ke Kula ʻo Nāwahīokalaniʻōpuʻu, Ka ʻUmeke Kāʻeo, Ka Pūnana Leo o Waiʻanae, Ka Papahana ʻo Māʻilikūkahi, Ke Kula ʻo Kamakau to name a few.
