Polyglot Gathering 2019
The Polyglot Gathering is an informal event which takes places once a year and brings together linguists, polyglots (people who speak several languages) and language enthusiasts from all over the world. It is a five-day event with lectures, workshops and social activities for everyone who loves and enjoys languages. Special focus, in contrast with the precious years’ events, will be on indigenous languages in order to support them!
Last year more than 530 people from more than 60 countries participated and shared their insights into language learning methods and innovative approaches, language-equality with the focus on indigenous languages and impact of hegemony, or cultural identity.
The event is aimed at general laymen language lovers as well as language professionals, teachers, interpreters or translators, for whom the proactive networking and stratcom with a clear goal to leverage the paradigm shift in language learning and endeavour for thinking outside the box will help to push the envelope and bring a win-win situation.
The gathering will provide space for language and culture-related lectures and workshops. Moreover it will provide space for the world’s top polyglots to engage in political-linguistic discussion on the topic of “Language hegemony in the world – any chance to avoid it?”
It is here, during this world’s biggest event of its kind where amateur and professional language-lovers from all over the world interested into planned/artificial and indigenous languages, share their ideas, break the old paradigmas and network together.
A large amount of the participants shape the view on languages and language policies worldwide as they have their own language-related businesses or organise language/culture-related events in every corners of the worlds.
Polyglot gathering is a place for discussing the human right of having a language and triggering discussions on searching the antidote againts language hegemony and brainstorming on how to support the languages on the edge of extinction.
The program gives space also for social and cultural activities including concerts, dance workshops, multicultural evening, games, trips, or solitary afternoon chill in hammocks.
