Storywriting and Mother Tongue Literacy Workshop
My graduate class from the University of the Philippines traveled to a town called San Fernando in Camarines Sur, Bicol Region to make multilingual storybooks through a participatory process with the community using the Bikol language with Filipino and English versions. The materials will be used for a community literacy program. The stories are about the history of the community and the lives of some people – a young girl-farmer, a female slipper maker and a school dropout who joined the Alternative Learning System program and became a teacher. The event also involved a training of teachers on big book making and teaching reading. The fieldwork was done in March 15-17, 2019.
