Breath of Life Symposia: Decolonising Victorian Aboriginal Languages – “Cultural inheritance and who has the rights to tell the story and who is the knowledge holder of language”.
This event is to address the historical methodologies, theories and tools used by the Western European learning framework, with academics and experts defining and leading technical developments and approaches to Victorian Aboriginal languages and linguistics . The Breath of Life Symposia will, through a series of Indigenous and non-Indigenous keynote speakers, break out sessions, and Aboriginal cultural heritage workshops, will discuss and share thoughts, gain awareness across the academic industries for the role of language as a cultural inheritance and living knowledge system. Other event activities will include partnership projects with Victorian Universities and human rights organisations/groups, which focus on songs in language, language rights and how language informs cultural practice, art, dance and literature.
