Howitt & Fison Language Consultation
A one day workshop styled forum to discuss the finding s
of the Fison & Howitt Papers and other related
publications. A series of papers, taken from letters,
discussing Aboriginal culture, language and kinship.
Howitt and Fison were the colonial anthropologists in
the 1880’s and the Fison & Howitt Papers are taken
from the correspondence between Lorimer Fison and A.W.
Howitt, with the premis of developing an understanding
of Aboriginal societies.
Fison was a Wesyleyan Missionary with experience in the
Pacific, and A. W. Howitt was, during his life, an
explorer, magistrate and had a keen interest in
anthropology.
